Ok so heres the thing i want to work with horses, but i need money so that i can have a few of my own at home. Are there any good horse jobs that make good money so that i can work the least amount of time and spend the most amount of time with my horses? Not a vet, i couldnt do that!
thank so much!

i’m currently in school at a college that has a weak equine program, but some options for high paying jobs are (you need a phd in animal science for these!) researcher like physiology or genetics, college professor at a school that has a strong equine program (st. andrews presbyterian college, colorado state) and teach equine courses and equistrian team. both will pay out close to $100,000. but u do gotta get your phd. plus and minus to everything i guess…

I’m looking for a horse but a friend of mine says that she’ll give me her old saddle to use. Do horses come with their saddle when you buy them from a previous owner?

In most cases the tack does not come with the horse.. Unless you pay extra of course, assuming the person wants to sell it. Usually they don’t though. Anyway, make sure any saddle you use on your horse fits both of you properly.. A poorly fitted saddle can cause a whole plethora of problems. Save yourself the trouble and make sure it is a true fit even if it is the horse’s old saddle.

Besides that, horses should NOT use the same saddle for the entire duration of their lives.. Horses, like people, change a lot from year to year– Especially when they are younger. Their muscles develop and change, they gain weight, lose weight, fill out, grow taller, ect. I have the fit of my saddles checked yearly by my saddler (my farrierr also checks for me any time he is over) until my horses are 8. Then I have it checked professionally every two years, but still every time my farrier is out– He’s kind of a jack of all trades.. :) Very rarely have I had to make any serious changes, but on my mare in particular, I’ve used three different saddles on her as she’s grown and changed.. Its good to have a record of the changes in my opinion.

I am 16 years old, and I have been interested and around horses all my life. My parents keep nagging me to get a job, or even get my 40 hours of volunteer service for high school. So I have decided that i'm going to take their advice, and try to get a job or volunteer! But i'm going to attempt this at one of the nearest horse stables around where I live. Like I said, i'm an experienced rider and ive taken care of horses before in my life, and i know the down to earth basics and what you need to do to tack them up, groom them, etc. My question is, how can I approach an Equestrian Stable and ask if there would be any space for me to volunteer and help around the barn, or even get a job if needed? Any help is greatly appreciated! In the future, Im even looking into part boarding (if my parents let me, that is) Which will probably be a no anyways.

What I recommend is calling up the stable, or better yet, going over there and seeing if you can either talk to the stable manager or the owner of the barn. Bring along a resume to give to them when you talk to them. Explain what you are looking for (part-time, full-time, paid, volunteer, etc) and your experience. Then hand them the resume, tell them that you were glad to meet them and that they have a lovely place (only make it sound more sincere lol), shake their hand, and say that you're looking forward to hearing back from them.
